East Lancashire Railway

The East Lancashire Railway is a registered charity dedicated to restoring, preserving, and celebrating the rich heritage of the 12-mile railway line running between Heywood and Rawtenstall. Throughout the year, we host a wide range of events, galas, dining experiences, and family activities suitable for all ages. From exciting family days out to elegant Sunday lunches aboard our heritage trains, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Our trains operate on most weekends and selected weekdays, offering visitors a memorable journey through the beautiful Lancashire countryside, with plenty to see and do at each station along the route.

Visitors can travel along the railway and enjoy scenic walks around Ramsbottom. For an easy and well-planned day out, a free trail guide is also available to download from our website.

For refreshments, visitors can enjoy food and drink at our Trackside Pub and Buffet at Bury Bolton Street Station, as well as our café and Buffer Stops Bar at Rawtenstall Station.

In Ramsbottom there’s plenty to eat and drink at local business. You just have to decide what takes your fancy!

Ticket holders can hop on and off at any station along the line, making it perfect for a day out or stopping for a bite to eat. Simply follow the timetable to plan your journey.
